Winthrop MFA alum, Pamela Winegard, selected to be a participating artist at the IX Florence Biennale


Encaustic Drawing3“The Florence Biennale is one of the largest events representing artists from around the world, with participants from 80 countries and more than 2500 works displayed. In the exhibition areas, energized by a myriad of events and performances, making it possible to admire a variety of styles, artistic trends and new frontiers of international contemporary art. Today the Florence Biennale represents a important moment in every artist’s career, offering an opportunity to come into contact with other artists, critics, and collectors from all over the world.  In 2001 the Florence Biennale became an official Partner in the United Nations’ “Dialogue Among Civilizations” program, which aims to promote dialogue between peoples of diverse cultures through artistic expression.

The Lorenzo il Magnifico International Award was launched at the first Biennale in 1997. At every edition this award celebrates the career achievements of top international artists. The prestigious Lorenzo il Magnifico Award is presented during an official ceremony to participating artists considered to be particularly praiseworthy by the Members of the International Jury, made up of eminent figures on the international art and culture scene.The last edition of the Biennale had the honor of hosting the fashion designer and stylist Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and the great maestro José Luis Cuevas who received the Lorenzo il Magnifico Career Award. At previous editions the award has been presented to artists such as Chen Cheng Hsiung, David Hockney, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Gilbert & George, Marina Abramovic and Shu Yong.”

Pamela will be the participating artist at the IX Florence Biennale, November 30th – December 8th 2013 in the Fortezza da Basso in Firenze, Italy by their International Selection Committee.


Pamela also was selected for “StudioVisit” Magazine for their Spring 2013 issue by Dina Dietsch, Senior Contemporary Curator for the DeCordova Museum, MA.

Studio Visit is a series of juried artist books. Since 2008 we have offered artists a new and effective venue through which to introduce their work to a serious national audience of art world professionals. Studio Visit presents all two- and three- dimensional media. Each high quality volume of Studio Visit features approximately 150 artists selected by professional curators. Selected artists are given one two full color pages that includes artwork images, contact information, and a brief artist statement. Studio Visit is sent and received by two thousand curators and galleries throughout the country as well as a growing base of collectors and enthusiasts.
