BYTE HOUSE: A Jon Prichard Performance of Horrific Proportions

An Ensemble Performance By Jon Prichard

Overture: Greg Stuart

WHEN: Sunday, June 2, 8:00 p.m. sharp

WHERE: The Giant Warehouse, 600 Catawba St., Columbia, SC

(behind 701 Whaley, next to the Pacific Park baseball field)

In 2011 at 701 CCA, Jon Prichard led some 30 performers in Micro-Cosmo, a multi-disciplinary performance. Now he’s back with BYTE HOUSE, semi-outdoors but under a roof, in the giant, open warehouse at 600 Catawba Street, as daylight fades, with 18 performers – members of his troupe Sinergismo and Columbia volunteers. Inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, this performance of horrific proportions – part directed, part improv, all in the moment – explores the creation of a functioning whole from disparate parts. The work will feature humans dancing like computers, inanimate objects brought to life and architectural props setting the scene. This spectacle of movement, structures, sound and video is the culmination of Prichard’s residency at 701 CCA and includes a musical overture by University of South Carolina music professor Greg Stuart.

Jon Prichard is an Adjunct Instructor at Winthrop University Department of Fine Arts.
