Time Further Out, a public sculpture by Winthrop Fine Arts faculty Shaun Cassidy and Tom Stanley was installed this week on the site of a yet to be completed sports complex for the City of Matthews. Commissioned by the Arts and Science Council in Charlotte, the work is made of powder coated steel and aluminum and stands 25 feet high. Since the artists wanted to make a form that related to the nearby soccer fields, shapes that atop the sculpture refer to the seasons, measurements of time, balls, movement and even the outline of a sports field. Most importantly, the artist wanted to create a work that was memorable and suggested the joy inherent in community sports.
